WILD, WILD WEST

In 2012 we embarked on our jubilee tour of america. a large group of us came together and it was a great success. for this reason, we have decided to make it one of our offered tours. this tour commences on a saturday and offers lots of fun socialising during real american-style barbecues. the tour will take you from los angeles, california, all the way east to el Paso, texas. You will face temperatures ranging between 20 and 25°c, chilled-out and desolate roads, deserts, typical cowboy towns, aeroplane graveyards, and the opportunity to visit the world’s biggest Harley dealer, Barnett.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

This 16-day organized tour is inclusive return ticket Amsterdam – LA (excluding airport taxes and surcharges.), Transfers, hotel accommodation, based on a two-person room, partly also including breakfast, motorbike rental with insurance, unlimited mileage, professional accompaniment and a trailer with a spare engine, which includes space for the luggage.

Day 1 U.K – Los Angeles

Upon arrival at the airport hotel, there will be time for a short introduction to the tour and a welcoming drink.

Day 2 Los Angeles – El Centro (230 Miles)

The following morning we will pick up the motorbikes from the rental place and leave Los Angeles southbound via the interstate. Passing Oceanside, we will head inland towards Julian, following the enticing curves and bends of the Sweeney Pass Road. We will stay the night in El Centro, which lies between the fields of Imperial Valley.

Day 3 El Centro – Gila Bend (200 Miles)

From here, the tour takes us east towards Arizona with a stop at the Imperial Dam on the way, followed by more country roads and acres of farmland. For the last stretch of today we will take Interstate 8 arriving at Gila Bend, which is known for its roadside culture and is named after the sharp bends in the Gila River.

Day 4 Gila Bend – Tucson (190 Miles)

Today will start and finish with a ride through a park that is home to interesting cacti, Sonora Desert, and Saguaro National Park West. We will also take the scenic route to Tucson via the US-89, “The West’s Most Western Highway.” Tucson’s nickname is “The Old Pueblo,” a very old city, which was founded by Native Indians.

Day 5 Tucson (free DAY)

Today you are free to explore Tucson. You will have the opportunity to visit the Old Tucson Studios, with its Western interior, and the Pima Air and Space Museum, with its enormous aeroplane graveyard, called “The Boneyard.” There is also the chance to take a trip to Mount Lemmon for those of you seeking something else to do.

Day 6 Tucson – Silver City (265 Miles)

An early start to the day will take us via a long, but ever-changing route to Silver City. This route will also take us past Tombstone, which looks like a typical old Western town where cowboys used to reign the streets on horseback. We will also visit the town of Bisbee and get a taster of the mining industry. Today will take us to the southernmost point of our trip, spending the night in the state of New Mexico.

Day 7 Silver City – El Paso (195 Miles)

Via the bendy US-152, we head towards Hillsboro and carry on along the Rio Grande to Hatch. Through Franklin Mountains State Park we will enter Texas and continue on to El Paso. There will be a quick stop at the Harley dealership to buy souvenirs before carrying on to the hotel for the night.

Day 8 El Paso – Carlsbad (205 Miles)

The route takes us further along wide, open terrain to Guadalupe. The famous El Capitan rock formation is certainly worth getting the cameras out for. The next Kodak moment will find us at the caves of Carlsbad Caverns National Park. A visit to see the impressive stalagmites in the caves is one of your opportunities to explore the area.

Day 9 Carlsbad – Las Cruces (235 Miles)

After an hour on the road we will start following the scenic US-82 westbound. Along the way we will come across the White Sands vista point with a stunning view over its vast surroundings.

Day 10 Las Cruces – Safford (230 Miles)

Heading north along the continuous road, we will get to enjoy the scenic US-78 back towards the state of Arizona.

Day 11 Safford – Phoenix (170 Miles)

On the programme today is a short ride past Coolidge Dam. We will spend the night in Arizona’s capital, one of America’s biggest cities by landmass, Phoenix. This is a sunny city and the hottest in comparison to America’s other big cities. Despite it only being spring at this time, it will feel like summer.

Day 12 Phoenix (free DAY)

Today will be a day of rest and you will have the opportunity to visit Phoenix. A trip to South Mountain Park will also be possible.

Day 13 Phoenix – Brawley (260 Miles)

Leaving the city behind us, we will ride on via country roads going west into California. Along the way, the landscape will change from outstretched desert to vast cattle fields; grain and grass belonging to massive farms as far as the eye can see.

Day 14 Brawley – Los Angeles (210 Miles)

From Brawley, an agricultural city, the route will take us through Anya-Borrega Desert State Park and along the bendy US-79 to Los Angeles. The last part of the journey will take us along a motorway to the rental place to return our motorbikes. A drink at the airport hotel will see an end to this splendid trip.

Day 15 Los Angeles – amsterdam

With an early start to the day, we will take the hotel shuttle to the airport and catch our flight back to the U.K. Or in case you would like to extend your visit, we are happy to accommodate your additional wishes.
